HerStory Reading Fellowship

fellwoship

In September 2019 the HerStory Reading Fellowship was launched in partnership with the Women and Gender Studies Department, Dhaka University and Independent University Bangladesh (IUB). During the one-year program 17 Fellows were trained to read HerStories: Adventures of Supergirls and lead engaging discussions about gender equality, life-planning and respect. The stories are read to adolescents from Bangla, English and Madrasa medium schools in underserved communities, to expose them to new ideas and a sense of possibility. This creative form of storytelling allows them to learn key decision making skills, framing their views of themselves, of gender roles as well as the world around them.

Futures thinking training with Shakil Ahmed

The HerStory Foundation Incredible Read-Aloud Fellowship, is a year-long reading program that connects motivated university students to underserved classrooms through the act of storytelling. Our Incredible Fellows are paired with a teacher in a classroom to read HerStories and discuss gender, future thinking and life planning with the young listeners. We train our Fellows in education and career counselling to make sure they can provide guidance to their listeners as they set out in pursuit of their dreams.
